Sweet Fern

Sweet_Fern_jpgThe Myricaceae family is commonly known as the bayberry family. The Sweet Fern is the only member of this genus (Comptonia). The wildlife value of this sweet-scented, fern-leafed plant is limited.  Deer browse on it in the Alleghenies and game birds and rabbits also make minor use of it.
